Abortion statistics are hard to track and unreliable in the United States. According to the Johnston Archives, there were approximately 1,300,000 abortions in 2003, the last year a full accounting occurred to date. Of those 1,300,000 fetuses that were aborted there were, of course, at least as many mothers and fathers, though the depth of involvement of the fathers, especially in the decision making process regarding whether or not to abort, could vary greatly. There were also grandparents, siblings, other related humans including the medical personnel who performed the procedure. The actual number of people involved in abortions every year in the U.S. therefore, is in the millions.
According to Merriam Webster’s Online Dictionary, a victim is defined as follows..
1. a living being sacrificed to a deity or in the performance of a religious rite 2. one that is acted on and usu. adversely affected by a force or agent (the schools are victims of the social system) (1): one that is injured, destroyed, or sacrificed under any of various conditions (victim of cancer) (victim of the auto crash) victim. (2): one that is subjected to oppression, hardship, or mistreatment victim of political attacks one that is tricked or duped victim No where in the above definitions is a victim described as benefiting from the experience.
So who among the many millions involved in abortions would qualify as a victim? Not a single one of them, not the fetuses, mothers, fathers, relatives, medical facilitators, etc. Not One.
Immediately upon reading this some are incredulous, angry, indignant. “How can there be no victims?” they ask, “And what is the benefit to anyone involved?”
There are no victims because every one involved, including the unborn, chose the role they played in the drama and benefited from it as well.
Abortion is seen by many as a moral or religious issue. Religion’s supposed role and domain, its first concern, is the soul and spirit. As for the moral issue, that is a matter of what is good for society, not so much a religious issue as a societal imperative. How will abortions effect the quality of life and the future of humankind, is the concern of moralists. What is good for the soul and spirit and what is good for society, those are the questions posed by religion and morality. At the core of each of those questions is the individual’s well being. So it all comes down to what is beneficial for the evolution of each one and the spirit of each one, from a spiritual standpoint they are one and the same.
Our physical bodies wear out, but consciousness goes on. In other words, we have a body but we are consciousness. Spirituality is all about that consciousness, its goal and aims. That consciousness, as explained in my book, “Your Loved Ones, Your Self; Finding and Raising the Family Within,” is composed of three parts. The major parts of each person’s consciousness are; the subconscious mind, conscious mind, and the Higher Self, also sometimes called the Super consciousness. I call it our Loved Ones because each of us has a Higher Consciousness that is both maternal and paternal and parental in nature. The argument for a triune consciousness, put forth in my book, is supported by science, religion, and my own experiences as a clinical hypnotherapist.
Of the three parts, it is the Higher Self, or Loved Ones, that actually creates conditions in each of our lives. Loved Ones project us into this world and each life, even the life of an unborn fetus, has a purpose. Am I saying that the unborn fetus is a human being, and if so, is abortion then murder? To answer that we must clarify the age at which a human life begins. From a consciousness standpoint, human life begins just before conception. Life, begins in consciousness and then becomes the physical, not the other way around.
That may be an arguing point for religionists. Is abortion murder? The taking of any life on the physical plane is murder, even capital punishment, but we’ll save that argument for another day.
So am I saying that abortion is murder? No. How can it be murder when the Higher Self of the fetus has chosen that life path? Before conception the Loved Ones, the creators of each life involved, agreed to each one’s role in this earthly drama. The reasons for this may be manifold. The ultimate goal for consciousness is evolution and growth of the parts of consciousness. To that end there are many valuable lessons that may be learned from the abortion experience.
But the important point to remember is that no matter how distressing an experience is on a human emotional level, every experience is a positive one on a consciousness and evolutionary level ( see Two Dreams ). There are no “bad” experiences. We suffer self induced pain as human beings until we no longer look for good or bad, but understand that each situation has a purpose and a successful outcome.
Behind every experience, including abortion, there is an abundance of love. The spirit of the fetus, out of love for the others, volunteers for a short life experience. Perhaps it will come back in another life and live fully, if so, then what really is the sacrifice or loss? Out of love it is providing an experience to grow and learn for the others. On the consciousness level of the Loved Ones the mother’s own Higher Self has chosen this life path for her. So she may learn and grow. Her ultimate goal is to realize the loving gift of the fetus and to be detached from the human emotion and realize there is no bad or good experience. Yes, obviously that does take a tremendous amount of understanding and personal strength, but that is what Higher Consciousness is all about.
The same may be true of all others involved. They learn love and detachment, the two necessary ingredients for the evolution of consciousness. There are no victims and no losers in an abortion, especially when each one can see it for the gift of love that it truly is. Right now some of you are seething with anger and so-called “righteous indignation.” That is an example of your misunderstanding and lack of detachment from the gross physical and your continued dependence upon human emotions that hold you back and hinder your evolution.
In time you will see the lessons of love in abortion and realize there are no victims or losers. In fact, dealing with your anger and confusion right now is part of the evolutionary process. Humanly painful as it may seem, that pain is as much of an illusion as the concept of right and wrong, good or bad. They are both ends of the same stick that you will continue to stumble over and beat yourself with until you can grow and evolve enough to let go of the stick and hold unconditional love and understanding in its place.
I see abortion, like all things human, as a beautiful play of consciousness applied to the canvas of life with the brushstrokes of love for all the universe to enjoy. The cosmos is drinking in the beauty and harmony of a master plan that can see abortion for the application of lessons of love.
Therefore, abortion is as much an act of love as conception, birth, or death and each comes at the perfect time.
