KATHMANDU, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) — Diarrhea outbreak has killed at least another 19 people in Nepal, local leading media group’s website Nepal news reported on Thursday.    In Ghaulagoh Village Development Committee (VDC) in remote Kalikot district, some 400 km west of capital Kathmandu, at least 16 died of Diarrhea in the last six days.

    The victims of diarrhea outbreak, most of whom were children and elderly people, died due to lack of medicines. The District Public Health Office of Kalikot has sent a medical team to the affected area, but drugs are in short supply in local health centers.

    More than 500 people in different villages in the VDC have beenaffected by diarrhea.

    Similarly, three people have died of diarrhea in Tejapakad and Maryadapur VDCs in Rautahat district, some 110 km south of Kathmandu. A four-year old girl and a youth died Wednesday while a death was reported on Thursday morning. Dozens of diarrhea patients have been undergoing treatment at the district hospital in Gaur.

    The number of patients in Rautahat is growing in these VDCs due to polluted drinking water and lack of sanitation.
