Set Your Personal Goals and Objectives Before Starting Your Diet
By Gary Machado

Do you find yourself in “battle mode” when you are on your diet? Like there is a line drawn in the sand, and you’re battling with your diet as to who is crossing the line first? This is setting yourself up for failure right at the outset. Instead of this combative state, try working with your diet by setting some personal goals and objectives at the very beginning.

Don’t change your entire life to please your diet. Instead try to work with it, accommodate it, bend with it.

It is you who will decide what personal goals and objectives you are trying to achieve, such as losing 8 lbs monthly for the next three months, or maybe its losing 50 pounds within 6 months. Just remember. Your food plan is only a tool. Use it the best way possible to reach your goals.

Here are some suggestions on how to make your diet your friend, and not something just waiting to trip you up.

* Choose a diet plan you like. Find a diet that fits in with your needs and lifestyle. It could be the latest fad or an old standby. Whatever. Just find one that you can work with Start your diet on the right foot. Remember it is you who is setting the personal goals and objectives to be reached. Not the other way around.

* Be willing to bend a little. Remember, a rigid stick breaks, a supple one bends. The more you can adjust your diet to the daily changes of life, the more likely the diet will work for you. Remember, these are your personal goals and objectives that you’re setting, not the diet’s.

* Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day .It takes time to lose that excess weight. No diet can make you lose all that weight instantly. Think of your diet as a journey. And each passing day is a step in that journey. And at the end of the journey is when you meet your goal.

* Each goal that you meet should be rewarded. For each milepost along the weight loss journey that you reach, give yourself a reward. It could be a book that you’ve wanted, a visit to the spa…anything, but a food item. And make certain you give yourself the reward. This will be en extra incentive to work your diet.

* Re-visit your initial goals. Sometimes we lose sight of our initial personal goals and objectives, and we begin to fight against our diet. You may question yourself as to why you are even dieting. And your diet becomes an unwanted guest in your life. If this happens to you, re-visit your initial goals. You might even have written them down. Remind yourself that your diet is a plan you chose to help you reach your goal to lose that extra weight.

Your diet can be made into a rewarding success. But expect some difficulties, some bumps in the road. When you can work your diet into your dally life, knowing when it is good and when it is not, you will discover some new ways to better the process and make your dieting a more rewarding experience.
