Yeast infection is a fairly common condition, it is estimated to affect 3 out of 4 women, and some men too. But what is yeast infection? It is an infection that is caused by the species Candida. The Candida yeast infection is a pathogenic fungus. In women it is often a vaginal infection, but it is sometimes in the form of a mouth infection. Infections are usually mostly an irritation and annoyance, but it can turn into a very painful ailment.
Flourishing in the moist and warm areas of the human body, such as in the vagina, under the foreskin of men, and under folds of skin, Candida is perfectly normal part of the flora of the skin. Typically the acidity of your body will keep the growth of yeast in check, but conditions such as stress, sickness and a change in diet can cause the acidity to change, and then yeast grows too quickly.
The infection occurs when your immune system is not in balance. Taking antibiotics kills both the good and bad bacteria in your body, and that can cause Candida to grow too much. Other conditions that might cause yeast infection includes organ transplants, has AIDS or artificial joints.
The signs of yeast infection are itching and a burning sensation in the affected areas. There are several different treatments used for yeast infection. The aim of medical treatments is usually to reduce the amount of yeast growing. A more traditional treatment is to use natural unflavored yoghurt to help increase the amount of good bacteria in the body.
